SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds is visiting troops in Iraq.
Rounds, speaking to South Dakota reporters Wednesday afternoon by telephone conference call, says soldiers' spirits are good and they're excited about what they're doing.
Rounds is traveling with several other governors, National Guard Bureau Chief Gen. Craig McKinley and other military officials.
It's the South Dakota governor's second trip to Iraq. He says security in the country is significantly better than it was a couple of years ago, though the area is still a war zone.
The mission began Tuesday at the Pentagon with briefings by top-level government officials from the Department of Defense and the State Department.
The governor also visited with wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
