SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The South Dakota Supreme Court upheld the attorney general's explanation of Constitutional Amendment K that will be on the state's ballot in November.
The AFL-CIO went to circuit court to challenge the explanation and have the proposal on secret balloting removed from the ballot.
A judge upheld it. In an opinion released Thursday, the Supreme Court affirmed the judge's ruling.
Amendment K was put on the ballot by this year's Legislature. The attorney general's explanation says it would guarantee the right to a secret ballot in electing public officers, adopting initiated or referred measures, and designating or authorizing employee representation by a union.
