Former SD tribal councilman sentenced

RAPID CITY, S.D. - A former Rosebud Sioux tribal councilman has been sentenced to two years probation for a sex crime.
Fifty-one-year-old Michael Valandra was accused of trying to solicit sex from a minor via the Internet in April 2009. When he showed up to meet the minor, he was met by Pennington County sheriff's deputies conducting a sting operation.
Valandra pleaded guilty to solicitation of a minor under a plea agreement with prosecutors, and was sentenced Monday.
