HELENA, Mont. - A tornado ripped a family's farmhouse from its foundation in Montana's remote northeastern corner, killing a man and boy and seriously injuring the boy's 71-year-old grandmother.
Sheridan County Coroner David Fulkerson says 10-year-old Robert Richardson and 46-year-old Steven Smith died Monday night at the farm 13 miles west of Reserve.
The boy's grandomther, Barbara Smith, is hospitalized in serious condition at the Billings Clinic.
Steven Smith was Barbara Smith's nephew.
Fulkerson said no one else was believed to be at the farmhouse when the tornado struck, though search efforts were under way.
The National Weather Service in Glasgow said the tornado touched down west of Reserve between 7:15 p.m and 7:45 p.m. before crossing into North Dakota, where it weakened.
