Area municipal, school board election results for April 13

UNDATED – Several area towns held municipal and school board elections Tuesday.

In Faith, there was a school board election, where three candidates were vying for two spots and a 3-year-term. Unofficial results indicate Scott Vance and Kris Stocklin-Johnson the winners for the two seats and Kyle Kennedy, who was the only candidate on the ballot for the 2-year-term.

In Wall, there were two races. In a race for City Council Ward 2, Kelly Welsh won with 48 votes, defeating Linda Hiltner, who received 14 votes. In a race for school board, 5 candidates were running for 3 seats. Unofficial results show the winners are Joshua Geigle with 157 votes, Cory Fortune with 129 votes and Elaine Simons with 128 votes. Their terms will start in July.

In Lead, Kayla Klein and Roger Thomas won commission seats in Lead. Kline topped the polls with 224 votes while Thomas received 183 votes. Challenger Dustin Heupel received 181 votes. In a Lead-Deadwood school board race, incumbents Suzanne Rogers and Tim Madsen defeated James Neill to retain their seats.

In Newell, there was a mayoral race, where the incumbent, Ken Wetz won. He defeated challenger Clint Humble 77 to 40.

There was also a mayoral race in Summerset, where Melanie Torno defeated Tim Hughes 143-40 Tuesday.

In Whitewood, Mike Weyrich wins a city council race in Ward 3. He defeated Brenda Werlinger 35-18.

In Belle Fourche, Randy Schmidt won a race for mayor garnering 427 votes, defeating Rebecca Larson and Vern Bills. For City Council, Derrick Erhart won the race for Ward 2, Randy Sowers won Ward 3 by 7 votes over Dean Brunner and Derrick Jones won Ward 4. In the school board race in Belle Fourche, top three vote-getters for three spots were Tara Knapp, Nita Justice and Greg Kajewski. They received 719, 619 and 377 votes respectively.

In Spearfish, Scott Hourigan won a race for City Council, Ward 2 with 147 votes. He defeated challengers Drew Dutton with 109 votes and Rob Herrmann with 31. There was also a race for Spearfish School Board Tuesday. Six candidates were running two spots. The top two were Nathan Hoogshagen with 438 and Ellen Plocek with 373, just ahead of Nancy Roberts with 369.
