Champions crowned as South Dakota High School Rodeo Finals wrap up Sunday

FORT PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota High School Rodeo Finals wrapped up after several days of competition over the weekend.

Winning the bareback title was Lucas Yellow Hawk of Blunt, who turned in a 65 point ride in the short go to win with 74.5 points. Kashton Ford of Sturgis, who led most of the way, missed the short go and finished in fifth.

Winning the barrel racing title was Piper Cordes of Wall, who finished on top with 90 points, well ahead of second place finisher Tommie Martin of Hayes.

In the breakaway roping competition, Charlie Henwood of Belle Fourche won the buckle, finishing with 84 points. Newell’s Acelyn Brink finished in second with 58 points.

Winning the bull riding was Mason Moody of Letcher. Moody had scores of 71, 51 and 73 to win the title with 78.50 points. Jack Rodenbaugh of Box Elder finished in third.

Rance Bowden of Belle Fourche won the boy’s cutting title and winning the girl’s title was Laynie Stevens of St. Lawrence. Brylee Grubb of Spearfish won the goat tying championship.

Tommie Martin of Hayes won the pole bending title with 79 points – three points ahead of T. Merril of Wall in second place.

In the reined cow horse, Dallie Lawrence from Alzada, MT won with 85.50 points. Landry Haugen of Sturgis came in third place.

Traylin Martin of Faith captured the saddle bronc title, scoring a 76 point ride in the short go and finishing with 90 points. Newell’s Cade Costello was second.

Denton Good of Long  Valley won the steer wrestling title, finishing on top with 78 points. Buffalo’s Grey Gilbert was second four points back.

Tate and Tyan Johnson held on to their lead and won the team roping title and Rance Bowden of Belle won his second title of this year’s event by capturing the tiedown. He finished with 80 points.
