Icy roads lead to accidents on I-90 during evening commute

STURGIS, S.D. – Snow most of the day, leading to wet roads, led to icy conditions for travelers Monday on the evening commute.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies were responding to a number of crashes along the I-90 corridor between Box Elder and Sturgis.

Accidents included vehicles sliding off the Interstate and into the median to rollovers; including a small box truck that was on its side outside Sturgis.

The patrol was cautioning drivers to slow down and give yourself plenty of extra time.

The National Weather Service added Sturgis to the Winter Weather Advisory Monday night. It was to remain in effect until 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Black ice is expected to be a problem as well for the morning commute.
