Pennington County man acquitted of murder, attempted murder charges

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Pennington County jury deliberate for less than two hours before finding a Rapid City man not guilty in the death of another man and the assault on two women in 2020.

Allac “A.J.” Dismounts Thrice was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Richard Montanez. He also faced two counts of first-degree attempted murder of Jessalyn Cook and Cody Good Soldier. The attack left Cook and Good Soldier with injuries they are still recovering from.

The charges stemmed from an incident that happened in September of 2020.

The verdict follows a week-long trial in which the defense argued testimony from witnesses didn’t “match up,” and there were other people who may have been involved at the time of the attack.
