Scooper Bats Come Alive in Rout of Stevens

RAPID CITY, SD – The Sturgis Scoopers dominated Rapid City Stevens on their home field Wednesday night, pounding out 12 hits in a 13-3 rout of the Raiders in five innings.

Sturgis got on the board with two runs in the top of the first and led 2-0 after one inning. Scooper right hander Kain Peters got the start for Sturgis, coming off eight days of rest and was overpowering early, holding Stevens scoreless through three innings with five strikeouts.

The Scoopers added five runs in the second, four in the third and one more in the top of the fourth to lead 12-0. Peters looked mortal in the bottom of the fourth, as Stevens tagged him for three runs on two hits.

Sturgis added a run in the top of the fifth and Peters slammed the door on the Raiders in the bottom half of the inning to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule, 13-3.

Peters earned the win for Sturgis (10-12), giving up five hits, striking out eight and walking one on 77 pitches. Dustin Alan led the Scoopers at the plate, going 3-for-3, scoring four runs and driving in one.

Brady Bickett took the loss for Rapid City Stevens (11-13). Cody Pope had two hits and one RBI for the Raiders.

The Scoopers take on Belle Fourche next on Saturday in Belle. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm.
