Sioux Falls O’Gorman wins State Cheer; Brandon Valley claims State Dance

BRANDON, S.D. – The South Dakota High School State Cheer and Dance competition was held Saturday.

CLASS AA RESULTS:

Winning the Grand Champion Cheer was Sioux Falls O’Gorman. The Knights finished on top with 283.5 points. Coming in second with 280 points were the Harrisburg Tigers and Sioux Falls Jefferson placed third with 277.5 points.

Top placing West River team was Rapid City Stevens in eighth. Sturgis came in 12th.

Brandon Valley captured Grand Champion Dance with 298 points. Sioux Falls Washington was second with 296.5 and Harrisburg was third with 291.25.

Top placing West River school was Rapid City Central in 10th.

Sturgis placed 18th.

In the dance competition, Brandon Valley won the Jazz and Pom category and Washington won the Hip Hop.

CLASS A RESULTS:

2021 ‘A’ State Cheer and Dance Results

Sioux Valley won their fifteenth state championship in ‘A’ cheer on Friday night while Dakota Valley won their twelve straight state championships in ‘A’ dance.

Sioux Valley finished on top with 283.5 and Dakota Valley was second with 214. Winner area came in third.

Dakota Valley won Grand Champion Dance with 277 points. Beresford was a close second with 276.5 and Tea Area was third with 262.5.

Dakota Valley captured the Jazz and Pom category with Tea Area winning Hip Hop.

Lakota Tech also made history on Friday night by becoming the first all-native cheer or dance team in history to compete at the state cheer and dance competition. They finished in eighth overall in dance.
