South Dakota records deadly COVID-19 report Friday with ten new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – It was a deadly Friday COVID-19 update as the State Department of Health reported ten new deaths.

Pennington County recorded four of those new deaths and Meade County accounted for one. The other deaths were reported out of Minnehaha, Stanley, Tripp and Yankton counties.

With the new deaths, hospitalizations were down from 203 Thursday to 190 today. Monument Health reports 78 COVID-19 patients Friday with 22 in the I.C.U. and 23 on ventilators.

The number of active cases across the state decreased as well from 7,725 Thursday to 7,704 today.

News case across the Black Hills area totaled 120 confirmed and 29 probable.

Pennington County reported 72 of the confirmed cases and 25 of the probable cases.

Lawrence County had 15 confirmed with one probable and Meade County reported 13 confirmed and 2 probable.

Elsewhere, Butte County had 9, Custer County reported 6, Fall River County added 5 and Oglala Lakota County had one probable new case.

As of Friday, 63.81% of the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 58.22% have completed the vaccination series.
