Sturgis Rodeo Team captures its second straight state rodeo title

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper Rodeo Team capped off a wonderful season this past weekend as they brought home the team trophy.

It was a great team effort that saw many different athletes contributing to the final outcome that helped them capture their second State Championship in as many years.

Several Sturgis athletes punched tickets to the National High School Finals next month.

Landry Haugen is among those. Haugen captured the All-Around Cowgirl title at last weekend’s state finals. At the national finals, she will compete in barrel racing, girl’s cutting and reined cow horse.

Kashton Ford captured the bareback title on the boys’ side and he too will  be competing at the National Finals.

Talon Elshere won the saddle bronc and Thayne Elshere’s third place in the bull riding will send the two on to the National’s.

The Sturgis area team is hoping to bring home more hardware from the National Finals Rodeo, which is taking place July 18-24 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
