Three new deaths in Pennington County listed in today’s COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 615 new cases of COVID-19 in their Thursday report with 143 of those listed under the probable category.

Active cases increased by nearly 200 to 7,416. The number of people hospitalized was down slightly to 248.

Six new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,355. Half of the new deaths were out of Pennington County and one of the new deaths was in Lawrence County.

New case numbers across the Black Hills area included 53 out of Pennington County, where three of those were considered as probable cases.

Lawrence County added 11 new cases and both Butte and Meade Counties reported nine new cases each.

Elsewhere, Fall River County reported 4 new cases and one new case was listed in Oglala Lakota County.

Health officials say as of Thursday, 65% the population 5-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 53.73% have completed the vaccination series. 15.70% of those eligible have completed their booster dose.
